Southwest 5 Yellow + Tai Sui 2028: The Year's Double Warning

2028 puts its two heaviest problems in one sector. The Southwest carries the 5 Yellow — the year's most difficult star — and Tai Sui, the Grand Duke of the year. The response is simple and strict: keep it quiet, keep it tidy, and do not disturb it.

Every year has a sector to leave alone. In 2028, the Southwest is that sector twice over. The 5 Yellow is an Earth star traditionally linked to friction, plans that snag, and small mishaps piling up. Tai Sui (太岁), the Grand Duke of the year, sits in the Southwest too — specifically SW3, the Monkey position, matching 2028's Earth Monkey year. Either one alone would demand a calm sector. Together, they demand the calmest room in the house.

The year runs from Lichun, 4 February 2028, to 3 February 2029. The full chart is on the 2028 flying stars map. This page is just the Southwest, in full.

What each problem means

The 5 Yellow. Think of it as friction, not catastrophe. In a 5 Yellow sector, things take longer, break more often, and need a second attempt. A renovation there does not just get dusty — it uncovers problems. A room used as the house's busiest thoroughfare accumulates wear, noise, and bad temper. The 5 Yellow is the star that turns small neglect into a run of annoyances, which is why its cure is mostly about care and calm.

Tai Sui. The Grand Duke is the year's ruling energy, and tradition says it must not be disturbed or confronted. Practically, that means the same thing as the 5 Yellow's rule, stated more strictly: no construction, no drilling, no digging in the Southwest all year, and keep the sector respectful — tidy, maintained, not used as a dumping ground. The five-element cycle explains the cure below; the rule itself needs no theory, just discipline.

Because both sit in the Southwest in 2028, there is no "good side" of the sector to use while avoiding the bad side. The whole Southwest is a keep-calm zone this year.

Do: quiet, tidy, metal

Keep it quiet. Southwest rooms should be the house's low-activity rooms this year: a bedroom used for rest, a quiet study corner, a little-used guest room. Move rowdy gatherings, loud music, and children's noisiest play elsewhere — the Northwest (9 Purple) is the year's celebration room for a reason.

Keep it tidy and maintained. Fix what breaks promptly, keep the room clean, and do not let it become storage. A well-maintained Southwest room is a room the 5 Yellow has little to grip onto. Neglect is the star's fuel; care is its antidote.

Place a metal cure. Metal drains Earth in the five-element cycle, so a hollow metal wind chime, a set of metal objects, or the traditional salt-water cure (a bowl of salt water with coins, kept clean and topped up) all suit the Southwest this year. Place one cure, keep it clean, and leave it alone all year. One good cure, maintained, beats three forgotten ones.

Use calm colors. Whites, greys, and metallic tones suit the Southwest this year — Metal colors, which drain the Earth star gently. Avoid red walls, candles as decor, and bright Fire features here: Fire produces Earth, and feeding an Earth star you are trying to calm is the year's most common mistake.

Plan around it. If a renovation, extension, or major repair touches the Southwest, reschedule it to 2029 or redesign it to avoid that sector. Check the 2028 cures and setup checklist for the pre-Lichun planning step — this decision belongs in January, not mid-project.

Don't: disturb, feed, or ignore

Don't renovate, drill, or dig. This is the year's firmest rule. No knocking down walls, no drilling for shelves, no digging in a Southwest garden bed, no demolition. If a repair is genuinely urgent — a leak, a safety issue — do it quietly and quickly, and do not turn it into a project.

Don't add Fire or Earth. Red decor, candles, fireplaces as features, heavy stone ornaments, and big earthenware pots all feed the 5 Yellow's Earth energy. Keep Fire and Earth additions out of the Southwest this year, even ones that look harmless.

Don't use it as the dumping ground. The spare room where broken things wait, the corner where clutter accumulates — if that corner is in the Southwest, the 5 Yellow year will notice. Clear it in January and keep it clear.

Don't panic. A calm Southwest is a sufficient response. The 5 Yellow plus Tai Sui does not require rituals, expensive objects, or fear — it requires one quiet, tidy, well-maintained room and the discipline to leave its walls alone.

If the Southwest is your…

Bedroom: keep it restful above all: clean air, good sleep, soft metal tones, no renovation noise. Sleep is the Southwest bedroom's job this year, and it does that job well when the room is calm. See the bedroom guide.

Living room: the hardest case, because living rooms want to be social. Keep the room tidy and a little quieter this year, move the biggest gatherings to the Northwest, and do not start any redecoration project that involves drilling or wall work.

Kitchen: the stove brings Fire, which is unwelcome here this year. You cannot move the stove, so compensate with care: keep the kitchen exceptionally clean, avoid adding red decor, and keep a metal cure in the room. See the kitchen guide.

Garden or yard: no digging, no major landscaping, no tree removal in the Southwest garden this year. Mowing, watering, and gentle pruning are normal maintenance and are fine; earthworks are not.

Make it stick

Do the January check: no renovation plans touching the Southwest, one metal cure placed and clean, the room tidy and quiet. Then the Southwest mostly takes care of itself — a calm room, left alone, checked monthly. If the cure gets dusty, clean it. If clutter creeps back, clear it. Ten minutes a month, and the year's double warning stays exactly that: a warning heeded, not a problem lived.

Frequently asked questions

What is in the Southwest in 2028?

Both the 5 Yellow (the year's heaviest star) and Tai Sui, the Grand Duke of the year (SW3, the Monkey position). Together they make the Southwest the year's strictest keep-calm sector.

Can I renovate in the Southwest in 2028?

No. Do not renovate, drill, dig, or demolish in the Southwest all year. If a repair is genuinely urgent, do it quietly and quickly, without turning it into a project.

What cures the 5 Yellow?

Metal, which drains Earth in the five-element cycle: a hollow metal wind chime, metal objects, or a salt-water cure with coins. Keep one cure clean and in place all year.

What colors suit the Southwest in 2028?

Whites, greys, and metallic tones. Avoid red and Fire features, which feed the Earth star, and avoid heavy Earth additions like big stone ornaments.
