2027 Flying Stars Chart: The Full Year Map

2027 is the Year of the Fire Goat (丁未). Its flying stars change at Lichun — 4 February 2027 — and run until 3 February 2028. That means right now is setup season: arrange the nine sectors before Lichun, and the layout works for the whole year.

Flying stars is feng shui's annual layer. The bagua map describes your home's fixed areas; the flying stars describe which energies visit each compass sector this year. Nine stars, nine sectors, one chart — and this page is the whole chart.

Find your nine sectors in five minutes

Stand in the center of your home with your phone's compass app open. The direction each room falls in — that's its sector. A bedroom in the north part of your home sits in the North sector, under this year's 5 Yellow. That's the whole method.

Rectangular floor plan with the bagua grid overlaid from the front door side.
Overlay the bagua from the front door side — the grid follows the door, not true north.

Two fine points: use the center of your entire home (not one room), and don't overthink irregular floor plans — assign each room to whichever sector covers most of it. Close enough is genuinely enough; the stars work on neighborhoods, not millimeters.

Open-plan homes: if your living-dining-kitchen is one big space, it probably spans two or three sectors. Stand in the center of the open area and divide it the same way — the sofa end might be South while the cooking end is Southwest. Treat each zone by its own star.

Apartments above ground floor: use your own unit's center, not the building's. Your home's energy map is drawn around your front door and your walls.

The sectors to enhance

Center — 9 Purple (Fire). The year's most auspicious star, sitting at the heart of the home. Keep the center open, bright, and clean. Warm light, red or purple accents (see the colors cheat sheet for how much color to use), and a living plant all suit it. Because the center touches every room, a calm, bright center lifts the whole house.

Southeast — 8 White (Earth). The wealth star, at its strongest this year. This is the sector to actively use: a desk, a reading chair, a healthy plant, good light. Earth tones and warm lighting suit it. If your front door is in the Southeast, that's excellent — wealth energy at the entrance.

Northwest — 1 White (Water). The career and wisdom star. The best desk spot in the house this year is a Northwest desk. Water colors (blues, black accents), a mirror or glass, and quiet focus suit it. If you work from home, this sector deserves your best chair.

Southwest — 6 White (Metal) + Tai Sui. A good star with a strict rule: Tai Sui, the Grand Duke of the year, sits in the Southwest, so this sector must not be disturbed — no renovating, drilling, or digging — even though the star itself is favorable. Enhance gently (metal tones, quiet use) and leave the walls alone.

South — 4 Green (Wood). The study and creativity star. Ideal for a reading corner, a student's desk, or creative work. Plants and greens suit it, and it pairs well with calm, focused use.

The sectors to keep calm

North — 5 Yellow (Earth). The year's heaviest star: friction, plans that snag, small mishaps. Keep the North quiet, low-activity, and well-maintained, with a metal cure (a hollow metal wind chime, or a bowl of salt water with coins) to drain its Earth energy through the five-element cycle. Do not renovate in the North, and do not add Fire — red walls or candles feed the star. The full guide is Five Yellow in the North 2027.

West — 2 Black (Earth) + San Sha. The health star, in a year when the West also carries San Sha (the Three Killings). Keep West rooms restful, clean, and undisturbed. This is a year to prioritize sleep and rest in a West bedroom, not to remodel it.

Northeast — 3 Jade (Wood) + Year Breaker. The arguments star, sitting on the Year Breaker position — the direction directly opposite Tai Sui. Keep voices down in Northeast rooms, avoid sharp confrontations there, and absolutely do not renovate or dig in the Northeast.

East — 7 Red (Metal). The conflict and loss star. Keep the East calm and uncluttered, avoid metal-on-metal clashes (loud arguments, clanging decor), and don't make the East the house's loudest room this year.

The four no-go zones (the rule to actually follow)

If you remember one thing from this page, make it this. All year, do not renovate, drill, dig, or knock down walls in these four sectors:

Daily coming-and-going, cleaning, and normal use are not "disturbance." The rule is about construction-level disruption: renovations, drilling, digging, and demolition. If a repair is genuinely urgent, do it quietly and quickly, and don't turn it into a project.

Your 20-minute setup

  1. Map your nine sectors with the compass method above.
  2. Enhance the Southeast and Northwest first — wealth and career, the two sectors that repay daily use.
  3. Place one metal cure in the North and keep it quiet all year.
  4. Check the four no-go zones: no renovation plans in any of them. If a contractor is booked, reschedule.
  5. Brighten and declutter the Center — it touches everything.

That's the whole game. Twenty minutes now, and the layout works until 3 February 2028.

Frequently asked questions

When does the 2027 feng shui year start?

At Lichun (the Start of Spring), 4 February 2027, and it runs until 3 February 2028. The flying stars change at Lichun, not at Chinese New Year or 1 January — so the time to set up is before 4 February.

How do I find which sector a room is in?

Stand in the center of your entire home with your phone's compass app. The direction each room falls in is its sector. Use your own unit's center, not the building's, and assign each room to whichever sector covers most of it.

What are the four no-go zones in 2027?

The North (Five Yellow), the West (San Sha / Three Killings), the Northeast (Year Breaker), and the Southwest (Tai Sui / Grand Duke). Do not renovate, drill, or dig in these sectors all year.

Is the 2027 chart the same for every home?

The annual stars are the same for every home: Center 9 Purple, Southeast 8 White, Northwest 1 White, Southwest 6 White, South 4 Green, North 5 Yellow, West 2 Black, Northeast 3 Jade, East 7 Red. What differs is which rooms of your home fall in each sector.
